Joseph Morte at ADT in the Pleasanton CA office told us we were signing up for a month-to-month contract which could be cancelled at anytime. "Nothing to lose" Joe said. In a classic bait-and-swith he put us on a 2 year contract that has a $500 early termination fee. We've spent almost 6 months trying to resolve our problem with ADT and every manager tells us the same thing "nothing we can do". Google "ADT lied", we are not alone. ADT protects your home while stealing from your wallet. Sorry, but I cannot recommend ADT Security. 1297654

I was a 10 year customer and moved. When I called, they said a new 3 year contract was required at the new address and told me I could be released after 1 year since they "understand people sometimes move after their first year lease is up." I signed the 3 year contract even though I did not see that in writing, so it's my own fault that I trusted them. I moved after 1 year and called them to cancel. I had to pay about $760 for the final bill. Right after I told the woman it was not personal but I would never do business with them again, she asked me if I would like to sign up with them at the new address!

All these people claiming to work for ADT are frauds. They are just customers who are upset with ADT and are trying to make ADT look bad. This whole site is a joe becasue you can post comments without even having an account. My experience is that most of the people complaining are just expecting something for free or are not smart enough to use an alarm system anyway.

Read the contract. Can't stress that enough. We are in the business of making money, if you don't like us after our sweet talking than that's on you. I love ADT, I lie for a living and make money doing it lol.

I too worked for ADT for 5 years after getting out from under one of the most corrupt corporations in North America. I had to train myself, I had to deal with customers complaining ALL the time about how rude the 800# is, their pricing just simply got out of hand. When the economy got worse, ADT raised their prices lol. My manager would tell me (and keep in mind, I worked for ADT corportate) to tell them whatever it took to get the sale. This included, if the customer asked how long the contract was to just say one year. When they would ask why the contract says 3 years, I was told to tell them that if they wanted out to call me and I could get them out. Ofcourse that never worked. Every rep was to give a 3 day right to cancel form to the customer, ALL the reps were told to NEVER give this to them and to throw it away. A lot of reps would not fill in the monthly monitoring amount until they left the house and it usually would be 3 times what they were told because the reps make a lot of money on the amount they charge you monthly. Everyone always says that you should read the contract. When you have someone in front of you from a reputable company (so they seem) you have no doubt but to trust them because we all want to believe that most people are good and have good intentions. Sorry to all the people I lied to.

I signed the 2 year contract, but they told me I couldn't quit when I tried to after the two years. They said they were going to pull my whole system out. My sales person, originally gave me a paper confirming that they would not take my system out after the two years. (I will note it came out only after I mentioned my father was an attorney and that is why I was reading their contract so carefully). I don't think it is typical to get this sheet. In the end I told them they could sue me if they wanted to take the system out, but I did not authorize them to come on my property (advice from my father). After that they left me alone. I would suggest not ever using ADT and if you have issues make an official complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
